New Holland 479 Haybine

Gordon St.Hilaire and his family farm shared some vintage tractors last time that assist in our annual hay production. We also have many other pieces of equipment that are part of this process. One example featured today is our 479 New Holland haybine. This piece of equipment is the first step in the hay production process. This unit cuts the hay, squeezes the hay and leaves it in rows to dry. There are several other steps involved in preparing our hay so stay tuned to see what comes next in the next blog. Have a great day! I have a new YouTube video. This Gordon St.Hilaire's New Holland 479 Haybine.

Ford 8N Vintage Tractor

Gordon St.Hilaire and his family farm began sharing about the tractors that are used on the farm. Another vintage tractor that is used in our farm operations is also a classic. It is a 1949 Ford 8N. This tractor was bought new and remains in service today. It had many repairs over the years, including multiple engine overalls. This tractor is primarily used during our hay season and its role is usually raking our hay. This not only is a productive tractor in our lineup, but a sentimental one as well. Check back to hear about other equipment used on our farm. Gordon St.Hilaire Family Farm Ford 8N Tractor video

Gordon St.Hilaire Family Farm Fall Duties

Gordon St.Hilaire and his family are moving into the fall duties at the farm. One of the first things to look at would be the fencing that surrounds our pasture. Typically this is maintained 3-4 times per year unless the beef feel like eating something on the other side of the fence. The statement ‘grass is greener on the other side’ actually rings true in this example. We have also started to transition into the feeding of hay as cooler temperatures have begun to slow grass production in our pastures. I’m including a photo of our beef enjoying a nice autumn afternoon snack.  We will keep you updated on other fall duties as they unfold.

Welcome to Gordon St. Hilaire's Blog

Introduction to Gordon St. Hilaire Hi, I'm Gordon St. Hilaire from Williston, Vermont and this is my blog.   Gordon St. Hilaire - Teacher I'm a middle school teacher (grades 5-8) and teach science and math.  I'm a big believer in STEM education. STEM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, is super important. It helps us understand the world around us and solve real-life problems. When we learn STEM, we become better thinkers, creators, and problem solvers.  These skills are not just useful for school but also for future jobs and everyday life. The coolest inventions and discoveries, like smartphones and space travel, come from STEM. I want to help the next generation have these skills. Gordon St. Hilaire - Organic Farmer I'm also an organic farmer.  You can find the website at gordonsthilaire.com . I raise grass fed Herefords on my family's 30 acre farm in Williston, VT. Our cows have access to shelter and fresh grass. My fa...
