Equipment Maintenance

Gordon St.Hilaire and his family wanted to share the equipment maintenance and repair that goes along with maintaining a small beef farm. We complete general maintenance periodically like oil changes, tune ups and equipment cleaning etc… We also have unexpected breakdowns that occur as well. Oftentimes the repairs are done on the farm as the cost of getting things fixed is very expensive these days as well as being able to get things scheduled for repairs is booking way too far out. Thankfully, our father was a ‘Jack of All Trades’ and trained us well in many areas of the mechanical world. Look for different information on repairs happening at the family farm in upcoming posts.

Ready for the change of seasons

Gordon St.Hilaire and his family have been very successful with our hay production this past week. The weather has been spectacular to process our hay. We were able to complete three additional fields and yielded a total of ninety-two round bales. The current conditions will allow us to put in some additional third cut square bales for extra nutrition for our beef cows.  Our barn is nearly full of hay which is a great feeling heading into the next seasons ahead. Gordon St.Hilaire's Family Farm Wrapping Up the Hay Crop

My family and I have been busy trying to finish up the hay crop for this year at the Gordon St. Hilaire Family Farm. It has been another unpredictable season and it's been challenging to say the least to get the feed in. Thankfully our family always pulls together to make things happen and get the work done. We plan to put in the barn our last round of feed this week. Maybe mother nature will give us an additional window of time? The year started off well weather wise in early May. Then, the unpredictable rains crept back into the forecast. We certainly took advantage of the sunny days in between, but it has been a challenging summer overall. We did achieve a good first cut and will be finishing up our second for the season at the end of this week. We will keep you posted.

Welcome to Gordon St. Hilaire's Blog

Introduction to Gordon St. Hilaire Hi, I'm Gordon St. Hilaire from Williston, Vermont and this is my blog.   Gordon St. Hilaire - Teacher I'm a middle school teacher (grades 5-8) and teach science and math.  I'm a big believer in STEM education. STEM education, which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, is super important. It helps us understand the world around us and solve real-life problems. When we learn STEM, we become better thinkers, creators, and problem solvers.  These skills are not just useful for school but also for future jobs and everyday life. The coolest inventions and discoveries, like smartphones and space travel, come from STEM. I want to help the next generation have these skills. Gordon St. Hilaire - Organic Farmer I'm also an organic farmer.  You can find the website at gordonsthilaire.com . I raise grass fed Herefords on my family's 30 acre farm in Williston, VT. Our cows have access to shelter and fresh grass. My fa...
